If you’re ever in NYC, you have to check out Christina Tosi’s Milk Bar. So creative and so much fun! We visited there in May and I had their classic ice cream made of cereal milk, which is exactly what it sounds like, and Kev had their famous corn cookie. If you’ve never heard of Christina Tosi, she’s currently one of the smartest and most creative female chefs and always has something new going on! Her most recent cookbook, Milk Bar Life, has everything from Crack Pie to Compost Cookies and will definitely open your mind to new ways of discovering food.
I came across a site a few days ago talking about a few different creative cereal variations Christina had created and I knew I had to try one! We almost never have cereal on hand and you know how big I am on cooking with what’s in your pantry, but lucky for me we happened to have some Honey Bunches of Oats just waiting to be eaten.
I understand that I’m probably speaking to a number of cereal purists who are perfectly happy with your classic cereal and milk, and I get that, but hear me out! How much happier could your morning be if you take an extra 5 minutes and added the nutty flavors of pistachios and the zip of lemon zest coupled with a few daring sprigs of thyme to your everyday cereal choice? I’m telling you, I did the photo shoot and then just sat and stared at how beautiful a simple bowl of cereal could be just by adding a couple of extra ingredients. Who would have ever known??
When I took my first crunchy bite with a drizzle of milk, I texted Kevin immediately to tell him how completely amazing it tasted. How can I ever eat regular cereal again?? I think this is going to start a quest of creating sassy new ways of dressing up my cereal. Maybe a peanut butter and jelly rendition or a coffee and chocolate combo?? Do you guys have any ideas??
Hands down the most fun I’ve had eating breakfast in awhile!!
