Nutritious Pressure Cooker/Instant Pot Stage 1 Baby Food recipes that you can make in 3 minutes and your baby will love!
Over the past year I’ve been occasionally seeing recipes pop up on my pinterest home feed for baby food recipes. I thought to myself how perfect the pressure cooker is for bulk batch cooking foods for your baby, but I didn’t want to do any experimenting and then have all this baby food lying around with no baby mouth to feed! So, that’s why we got ourselves a foster baby! LOL! All so I could post a blog on PC baby food….
JK JK JK. We’ve had our little foster guy for over 7 weeks and we started introducing solid foods to him at about week 3. He just turned 7 months old and so we’ve been working our way through all the stage 1 baby foods and are about ready to advance to stage 2. He’s a bit of a pill on some days with what he’ll eat… one day he’ll down an entire serving of peas and the next day he won’t even open his mouth for some banana (his all time favorite!!). So, we’re doing lots of experimenting and making sure to keep trying the foods that he’s already rejected. It takes 10-20 times of a child trying a food to decide whether they actually like it or not, so we’re shooting for that goal!
There are many different lists for what qualifies as a stage 1 baby food, but for this post I’m going to cover the top 8 most basic foods that cook perfectly in the pressure cooker.
Apples, Pears, Butternut Squash, Sweet Potatoes, Green Beans, Carrots, Peas, Zucchini
There are a few different ways you can go about cooking these Pressure Cooker/Instant Pot Stage 1 Baby Foods in the pressure cooker, but the way I’m going to demonstrate is with a combo of ramekins and a steamer basket. The ramekins will hold the zucchini, peas, apples, and pears, and the steamer basket will house the butternut squash, sweet potatoes, green beans, and carrots. The beauty of this situation is that you can cook everything at the same time and have a variety of baby food for the next week or month, depending on how much your baby eats!
1 small apple, peeled and diced
1 small pear, peeled and diced
1/4 cup diced/peeled butternut squash (frozen or fresh)
1/4 cup diced/peeled sweet potatoes
1/4 cup trimmed cut green beans
1 large carrot, peeled and chopped
1/4 cup frozen green peas
1 small zucchini, chopped
These were all foods I had either in my pantry, fridge, or freezer, and it only took me about 15 minutes to prep everything and get it into the pressure cooker.
Once you have the trivet in your pressure cooker (with 1 cup of water poured in the bottom), add your first four ramekins and then place the steamer basket on top with the remaining free floating produce.
Set your pressure cooker to high pressure for 5 minutes and then let pressure naturally release when the time is up.
Remove your fruits and veggies from the pressure cooker, then mash or puree in a food processor or blender until they reach your desired consistency.
I like to portion mine into these silicone ice cube trays, freeze them, then pop a couple out in the morning for the day’s meals! Pressure Cooker/Instant Pot Stage 1 Baby Food FTW.
