I try not to joke about being old when realistically I’m hopefully only 1/3 done with my life, but tonight calls for some brief joking. In the last year and a half that I’ve been a mom, I can count on 10 fingers the number of times I’ve been out of the house by myself after 7pm. Half of those have been out with a friend and half of those have been coffee shop work dates for exciting stuff like….work.

Anyways, tonight I got our tiniest guy down for the evening and headed out for a bit to get this blog post done as well as a few other long pushed off tasks. The place I really wanted to go (small, quiet, easy to park, old lady status place) closes at 9, so I decided to go to a “cooler” spot that I knew was open late.

I’ve been here a few times before, but not for awhile, and evidently not for a VERY LONG WHILE BECAUSE NOW IT’S EVIDENTLY THE MOST POPULAR PLACE IN TOWN. I’m not exaggerating when I say that there are probably 600 cars here and 75 motorcycles. You know when there’s that many motorcycles, that you, as a mom who only gets out of the house 9 times in 18 months, are in a place that is indeed, too cool for you.

After 15 minutes of wandering around with my very safe glass of kombucha looking for a table near a plug-in, I finally got settled. The noise is completely deafening, I probably will have ringing in my ears when I leave and won’t be able to fall asleep until midnight due to overstimulation, but hey, it’s keeping me young, right?

Can we talk about what else keeps me young? Friday night pizza traditions. Growing up we seemed to always have homemade pizza on Fridays, and around the Van Slyke household I try to stick to that! Sometimes I make the Traudt (my maiden name) special, which is sausage, onion, green pepper, mushroom. Or, sometimes it’s more of a fridge clean-out situation pizza. Something crazy like zucchini, pepperoni, potato, basil.

….yeah, don’t worry about it, it’s fine.

Anyways, if I’m feeling boring I use a pre-made pizza sauce from Trader Joe’s or even just a can of tomato sauce with italian seasoning mixed in, or a half-used jar of pasta sauce. If all is going well though, I already have a batch of this sauce cooked up and ready to go in the fridge or freezer! Something with the magic of the pressure cooker makes this sauce so thick, rich, and decadently perfect. It will literally make your pizza theeeeee best ever.
